Disaster recovery (DR) strategies are put in place to address the need to safeguard data against natural disasters, human error and malice. Enterprises manage these risks by replicating primary data to secondary sites. But if moving primary data to the secondary DR site takes so long that it becomes difficult to ensure a current copy exists at the offsite location, the strategy quickly breaks down.
Dell EqualLogic Auto-Replication periodically replicates data from primary sites to designated DR sites. Silver Peak’s Virtual Acceleration Open Architecture (VXOA) software complements Dell EqualLogic by optimizing the data movement and providing granular visibility and control over the traffic. This helps ensure business continuity in the event of an outage.
We are excited to build on our status as the Dell Global Preferred Partner for WAN optimization by validating and quantifying the performance benefits of a WAN-optimized Dell EqualLogic deployment. In the real world, we are seeing deployments with up to 20x improvement in EqualLogic replication times and up to 90 percent WAN bandwidth reduction. Working together with Dell, we are helping customers exceed recovery point objectives (RPO) while minimizing infrastructure costs.
Travis Rupp, associate vice president of project management for Denali Federal Credit Union said, “The combination of Silver Peak optimization with Dell storage replication plays an integral role in preserving and protecting our financial data.”
Rupp added, “In less than a day, we downloaded Silver Peak’s software, installed it on Dell PowerEdge servers, and started optimizing our traffic. It used to take more than 11 hours to replicate our data across Alaska, and with Silver Peak, we can now replicate all of our data in just 3.8 hours.”
With Silver Peak, Dell EqualLogic customers can replicate 20-times more data over existing WAN connections. This ensures RPOs are met and disaster recovery costs are minimized by leveraging lower cost WAN infrastructures. Our software-based solutions are available for free, self-service trials directly from our website, which allows anyone to start optimizing their DR deployments immediately.
